2 The Disruptive John Roberts
The Disruptive John Roberts
My main concern this morning was re loading my WhatsApp. I had deleted the app and it’s data yesterday afternoon because of the possibility of a second interview at immigration and border control. I had done a search for ‘Trump’ within my chats and it had produced 230 results ๐ณ and the absence of wifi ๐ meant that I hadn’t restored my iCloud back up and it’s 15GB of WhatsApp messages
The flight left the gate on time but sadly the guy behind me in 15C was drunk and decided to get up for a wander as we neared the runway for take off. Despite a call to return to his seat from the captain he became a little disruptive and the decision was made to return to the terminal.
The guy sobered up a little and called his lawyer who suggested that playing a race or hate card was the best plan and that he should settle down. It was a long call as the taxi back to teminal 8 took quite a while. The smell of weed and alcohol was strong but he was clear headed enough to realise that he should get the cost of his $700 ticket refunded and that the n***r who told him to sit back down was just in the wrong.
The doors opened and I was ready for escalation and violence. I was worried about a possible kerfuffle being streamed live, so put my hood up as we waited for ‘the n****r Air Marshalls to come on’. John Roberts called his wife, who’s sigh could be heard over the speaker phone as she told him to calm down and do as he was told. It was now 8 am and luckily two old ladies of colour boarded and tactically asked him “to come to the front of the plane to chat about the situation where it would be a little more private.” Things crescendoed a little when they asked him “can you bring any luggage with you”. A give away that he was not going to make it to his destination.
Luckily things didn’t blow up and JR left the plane headed to Dallas.
In flight update - The connection has been missed and we’re now in the air....well let’s see 10:02
12:24 The American Airlines app is being updated as we fly. It looks like we have been moved onto a connecting flight to Kalispell tomorrow Saturday. The implications of this are that we have to speed up our bounce box (forwarded provisions) and equipment purchase plans (items that can’t be taken on a flight - gas, bear ๐ป spray, bear canisters for food storage, knives). Also with thoughts of sending our first bounce box to mile 230 - benchmark wilderness today in case the post office in Whitefish where we had planned to stay is closed......
12:40 The hostess announces “hey great news for today!!” My ears perk up, “we’re giving away 50,000 miles!!” I tune out, she’s punting a credit card, and I realise, tired and hungry, that I’m in compensation mode. ๐
Choose Coke - the can variety, not the fold way table type.
I decide to relax and let the trail magic ✨ provide solutions for the coming days as the adventure begins.
19:23 Wow, a crazy few hours as we navigated a missed connection, insurance policies, vouchers for meals, each terminal at Dallas Fort Worth A,B,C,D and E! the airport shuttle, uber, United Airlines, United Airline baggage handlers (very good) to finally end up checking into the Grand Hyatt, with views of the sunset over the runaway and its endless stream of America Airline jets. ๐
